Waste Disposal System At Kendriya Vidyalaya

To practice waste disposal at its origin, students of Kendriya vidyalaya at Pattom, Trivandrum installed a pipe compost unit. The biodegradable waste at the school shall now be disposed off there itself .The manure that will be obtained from composting will be used for the vegetable garden grown on the school terrace. This has been done as a part of the “Sukratapuram “plan organized jointly by the Suchitwa Mission and the Malayala manorama.

The plan was inaugurated by minister, M.A Munir. “If the students work as an army to dispose waste at its origin then this could awaken the minds of the elders “said Mr. Munir. Then the minister also visited the vegetable garden on the school terrace .Tomatoes, ladies finger, beans, spinach were all grown including rice which took the minister by surprise and he expressed his reaction with a remark “very   good”. Students alone watered and added manure to the plants. The vegetables were grown in special bags filled with mud. The vegetables are grown without using chemical pesticides or fertilizers. “Now the manure from the pipe compost unit can be used for vegetables “said the students
