Waste Water Treatment Plant In Hotels

As per an ombudsman’s order the hotels at Ramanattukara have installed latest waste water treatment plants .Hotel Malabar plaza has installed a plant costing around 15 lakhs and has already started operating . In this plant 4000 liters of waste water gets treated everyday. All the other plants at various hotels are undergoing final stages of completion at Vaidyarangadi.

The waste water from the hotels at Vaidyarangadi used to flow into the Chethupalam canal and pollute it. A native of Ramanattukara Mr. Mohammed approached the ombudsman against this pollution .As per this, a sitting was called in which the ombudsman declared that the hotels would have to install water treatment plants and consequently Hotel Malabar plaza installed the latest plant costing quite an amount. The plant was installed jointly by Bio Energy system ,  Kozhikode and united tech, Ernakulam . The waste water is treated with chlorine and urea. “The clean water obtained is used for farming purposes” says the hotel owner Mr. Imichikoya haji.

A big tank container measuring 15 meter long and 8 meter wide is constructed and divided into 8 layers to treat the waste water.

A high capacity bio gas plant is also installed here which makes use of the hotel waste to produce cooking gas which is quite enough to meet with the hotels requirement.

Waste Disposal Plant at Shreekaryam Market

The waste disposal plant at Shreekaryam market becomes an example at a time when the city cooperation is running around looking for landfills to dispose waste.

Installed in 2006 by the Biotek company , this plant has a capacity to decompose 300kg of waste produced daily at the market and the electricity obtained by the plant is used to light up 28 lamps in and around the market place. The plant was set up in the leadership of the A.P Murali committee, before Shreekaryam grama panchayat was included into the city cooperation. The plant had cost around 12 lakh rupees to be installed in 2006. The market that once used to stink due to waste is now a zero waste zone.

A permanent employee is appointed by the Biotek company itself to look into the waste disposal and the conversion of the same into electricity. The wages for this employee is being paid from an amount set aside from the initial fund collected by the Shreekaryam panchayat. This plant was the first to be setup in the district by the panchayat and taking this into consideration Shreekaryam gramapanchayat had received the “Nirmal” award from the president and “Harida keralam” award from the Manorama.
Isn’t it possible thus to install similar plants in every market place and flats? People should come forward to make this a reality. If the throw away culture is hard to be destroyed then there is nothing that can be done.
